Online Tournament Rules

Our goal with these online tournaments is to create an experience as close to playing in a live tournament as possible.  Playing live online can be challenging. You will experience distractions at home, but we ask you to keep them to a minimum so that you can focus on the tournament.  This will help us keep up the pace of the tournament so everyone can enjoy themselves.  With that in mind, please follow these basic rules.

Equipment
You must have a microphone and speakers in order to play.  Playing deaf and mute is too frustrating for your opponents.  Headphones are preferable and regular speakers often create feedback.  When you are not speaking please mute your microphone.

Schedule  (Tournament Start = T)
  • T-minus 30 minutes - Registration ends.  Please don't cut it short.
  • T-minus 30 minutes - Check-in begins in the Tournament Voice Chat.
  • T-minus 5 minutes - Check-in ends in the Tournament Voice Chat.  If you are not in the Tournament Voice Chat by that time you will not be included in the tournament bracket and your tournament fee will be refunded.
  • T-minus 0 minutes - Blast off.  The tournament bracket will be posted on our brackets page.

Finding your Opponent
On the Challonge Bracket above your pairing will be a table number, find the matching table number in the Tournament Voice channels and enter it.  There must always be an open voice channel between you, please be considerate of your opponent and play in a quiet environment.

Reporting your Results
Winners will report the results directly into the Challonge bracket.  It is often necessary to refresh the browser if you have an issue reporting.  If you continue to have an issue please contact a director by posting a message in the #Tournament Text channel prefaced with @directors.
Do not report other people's results.  We know you're trying to be helpful, but it only causes confusion.

Waiting for your Next Match
Please join the Tournament Voice Chat when you have finished your match.  This is like the big tournament room and that's where your next opponent will look for you.  Of course, you'll know which match you are waiting for so you can go watch that match on Backgammon Galaxy if you like.  But please stay online and in the Tournament Voice Chat if you are not playing a match.  Let us know in the chat if you leave the room for a few minutes for any reason.

Forfeits
  1. If you cannot maintain a stable internet connection, your Backgammon Galaxy clock will continue to run.  If you run out of time, you forfeit.
  2. If your opponent is looking for you in the Tournament Voice Chat, and you are not available, they will notify a tournament director who will start a clock and start looking for you.  If you are not able to play within 15 minutes, you forfeit.
